Tube Bird Feeder Information

Tube bird feeders are still the most popular type of bird feeder.  Reasons?

1.  Easy to fill up and reload
2.  Very little spillage
3.  Easy to see when to refill

When looking to attract a wide variety of birds, use a tube bird feeder filled with black oil sunflower seed.  Also, make sure you remember to wash out debris that might collect in the bird feeder holes.

Hummingbird Feeder Information

Hummingbird feeders use nectar instead of seeds for food.  Also, hummingbirds in general, are very territorial.  This means they do NOT like to share their nectar with other hummingbirds.

Springtime is by far the best time of the year to see hummingbirds.  Make sure you get your hummingbird feeder out right after the first sign of spring.  Continue feeding through Autumn.

Hummers do not like dirty bird feeders, so you'll be doing a decent amount of cleaning.  Also, old nectar can be dangerous to their health, so be sure to clean thoroughly.

Suet Bird Feeders Information

Suet bird feeders are made for winter feeding.  In fact, if temperatures rise over 70 degrees, the suet may begin to melt.  So, don't leave it out all year.

Suet feeders are built to protect the suet from bigger animals.  This is why you'll see a lot of the suet feeders just barely big enough to hold the suet.  Squirrels are always an enemy of the bird feeder.  If squirrels become a problem, look into a squirrel proof suet feeder.

Common birds attracted to suet feeders:
  • Woodpeckers
  • Juncos
  • Cardinals
  • Jays
  • Wrens
  • Goldfinches

Window Bird Feeders Information

Many people enjoy getting real close to the birds and watch them feed.  If that's your bird watching choice, purchasing a window bird feeder might be best.

Most windowsill bird feeders provide bigger than normal capacity food trays.  Also, most window bird feeders offer suction cups to mount on the window.  Others offer velcro.

If you have a squirrel problem, a window bird feeder can help solve it.  Simply put your window bird feeder in a place where squirrels cannot climb (not close to branches).
