Bird Feeding Tips, Guide and Information

Bird feeding is an interesting hobby especially when one wants to relax.  It also makes a great learning experience for a willing learner and can used as a family activity that can be shared between parents and children or grandchildren and grandparents.

For bird feeding to be successful, it is important to note a few things which will assist in making this activity not only enjoyable but effective.  The first thing to note is the type of birds you intend to attract/feed.  Different birds feed on different foods; therefore it is important to know the type of bird to determine the type of food to use; what appeals to the hummingbird may not appeal to the woodpecker.  The next thing that one needs to consider is the bird feeder.  One needs to make a bird feeder that will attract many types of birds.  Some birds can be very picky, so when picking a bird feeder, consider a specific type of bird feeder to attract the right species.  When choosing a bird feeder consider the color and material.  A simple bird feeder can be made from a plastic painted can.  Consider the durability and maintenance of the feeder.  Having different bird feeders could also help in attracting a variety of birds.  One feeder is only efficient when attracting one type of bird.  Making or constructing your own feeder could help in cutting cost.  Armed with the right food and feeder, bird feeding is well on its way to being successful.

Other tips that one needs to know to ensure successful feeding habits include the different birds feeding habits; this will guide you on where to place your bird feeder.  For example, if you want to attract or feed cardinals it is important to note cardinals love to find their food close to the ground.  As a result, if one place their bird feeder far from the ground, cardinals may not come.  One also needs to consider protecting their bird feeders from squirrels or other animals that might try to get the bird's food.

Bird migratory patters can also be very helpful in knowing which type of birds will be seen during which season.  This knowledge will guide you on the choice of food and bird feeder during a particular season.  There are also certain plants that attract particular birds and growing them is an added bonus when trying to feed birds.  Some birds feed on nectar and having flowers in your backyard will not only decorate it but provide food for that special bird.  With this information in practice, one can pull out that pair of binoculars and relax while watching the beautiful site of birds feeding in your backyard.
